Passau is the city at the three rivers. Which means that space in or near the city center is scarce. I wouldn’t recommend trying to find a parking spot close to the old part of the town. The streets are often small, parking is expensive and it is often hard to find a spot. There are three camper sites for camper vans and mobile homes you can use to visit Passau.

Winterhafen Racklau

It is the biggest of the three sites and free of charge but without any supply (no water, no disposal, no toilets). As it is ~3km from the city center and has around 30 pitches the chance to get a spot is high. But it still might be full during high season.

It is right next to the Danube. The area might get flooded during high water. Therefore the maximum parking time is limited to 24 hours. We just want to make sure that people return to their vehicle regularly so that in case of any predicted flooding all vehicles can be removed.

There is a federal road next to it. You will hear some noise especially during the day. You can use your bike or a bus to get to the center. By bike you need to cross the federal road and you can use the bike lane along that road. The bus stop “Stelzhamerstraße” is at the crossing.

Bahnhofstraße

This site is located between a federal road and the train station. Expect noise! This is also why you might find a spot here if all other sites are already full. This is also your go to place if you just want to visit Passau for some hours as it is the only parking area allowed for camping vehicles (other than that we just have parking garages and a parking area just for cars).

You can stay here for multiple days (max. 8) on one of the ~15 pitches. Water removal and disposal are available as part of the parking fee. You can get fresh water for a charge (coins needed). Toilets are available in the parking garage on the first level (you need a 10 cent coin).

You enter the area through a barrier and you pay before you want to exit. The pay machine is inside the parking garage next to the camper site on the first level next to the toilets. You pay by the hour and will reach the maximum charge for a full day after 5 hours. Foreign languages are available on the display.

Let’s be honest: this site is neither pretty nor cozy. But the city center is in walking distance and you will be able to stay here even with bigger mobile homes and have a good chance for a spot during high season.

Parkdeck Ilzbrücke

This site with 13 pitches is definitely the nicest one in Passau. It is next to a park, the river Ilz and in walking distance to the city center. Unfortunately that also makes it very crowded especially during high season. Vehicles might park all over the place and getting in and out especially with a bigger vehicle might be a challenge.

This picture was taken during the Covid-19 lockdown. Usually the site is much more crowded and motor homes will e.g. also park on the right side along the street

Just as in Winterhafen Racklau the maximum time for your stay is 24 hours. This time the river Ilz might be the culprit to cause floodings. On the other side of the river is a federal road. So you will hear some traffic.

You pay the parking fee in advance either by using the pay machine inside the parking garage or the mobile app Parkster. You pay by the hour and will reach the maximum charge for a full day after 8 hours.

Water removal and disposal are available at the site. You can get fresh water and electricity for a charge (coins needed).
